Crawl Space Vent Sealing Solutions in Philadelphia and New Jersey

pSince the air in your house drafts from the bottom up, the last thing you want is to leave openings for outside air to come in and allow dirty air from the crawl space to enter your home, causing your family to breathe in dirt and mold particles, contributing to allergy symptoms and other health issues.

Most crawl spaces have been vented due to antiquated building codes. Nowadays, we’ve become aware that venting a crawl space creates big problems!  It is absolutely necessary to seal any vents or areas where outside air can enter in order to prevent potential health issues, mold, mildew, odors and structural decay. Sealed vents will not only keep outside air out but it will help with other ´problems such as insects and wildlife intrusion, and moisture control. Our patented vent covers are mechanically attached to form an airtight bond.

Ventilated Crawl Spaces? Not on Our Watch.

Builders have always favored crawl spaces because they’re faster and less expensive to build than a full basement foundation. This type of traditional crawl space utilizes openings, or air vents so that the air can circulate and keep the area dry.

If there is any insulation installed, you may find it in the form of fiberglass batts, which are placed between crawl space joists. The crawl space’s floor will typically be comprised of either soil or concrete.

Having this type of crawl space can be troublesome. During the summer, when the crawl space continuously receives unconditioned air from the outside, it also allows moisture in. Due to differences in temperature between the crawl space and outside, moisture will start to condense on various surfaces of the crawl space, which invites mold to grow and causes wood to rot. The presence of wet wood can also attract insects such as termites and carpenter ants.

In winter, there’s a new set of problems: freezing air from the outside will enter the crawl,  cause the floor above ot to become cold and cold drafts make your rooms very uncomfortable.

If there are HVAC ducts running through the crawl you can expect higher energy bills year round because the air that you are paying to coll and heat os gaining or losing temperature on their way to your living space. That means that your HVAC system is working harder just to keep up with the temperature changes in the crawl space.
